I am indebted to the social security need money please help?

I use to be on disability. I listen to the benefits because I work pay a rent. Now they are saying that I owe $ 50,000. I have no luck twice appealed. Do I need a lawyer or file bankruptcy? Is there a other way out of this without filing bankruptcy? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
