Tax & bankruptcy discharge?

My husband and I live in Arizona and we filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy 10th November 2008. Our discharge 27th March 2009 … does this affect or 2008's 2009's tax and what do we do? All we have received to date in the mail a letter under Our case, claim was dismissed and it was a standard discharge. Please help April 15 is just around the corner! lol …

There should be no impact at all. Since your case was dismissed before you filed your tax returns, they will not even keep track tax refunds are unless you have already advised the opposite. Some of your creditors can give you a Form 1099-C for all the debts that were wiped out. They should not allow to do in cases of bankruptcy discharge. If they refuse to denounce them, You should keep copies of the bankruptcy discharge papers, so that you will be able to prove insolvency to the IRS. If you do not have 1099-Cs, file Form 982 and attach a Copy of the bankruptcy discharge of your tax return to tell the IRS that the 1099-C "income" is not taxable.
