The legal separation, filing for bankruptcy together?

My husband and I will soon be legally separated for registration. We also believe it is in our interest to file for bankruptcy. If we are legally separated, we can still file bankruptcy together? We have joined the majority of our debt, we believe it makes most sense to do this together (we are better friends than purchased spouce). Who knows if we can file together if we are legally separated, or in the process of separation?
