The power of networking
"If you do not network, you do not get to work." – Unknown
How strong is your network? What would Happen if you fired today? What would happen if you fold your business and had to declare bankruptcy? What would happen if a loved one needed emergency medical Surgery not covered by insurance, and it was a matter of life and death? How many people would be able in your network, you really help when the going gets tough? Would you like to be able to pick up the telephone, call one of your contacts, and get a decent job transfer or lend you some money to you about Tie?
This may sound too serious and morbid theme sound even think about it during the holiday season, but Let's face it – many employers Wait until after the holidays to break the bad news, and many companies after a poor Christmas sales fold. So, if you do not put yourself this question, it now a good time to ask and answer the question honestly.
Do you think that someone you have not called in months, perhaps years, to open their wallet or rolodex and help you out of the goodness of their heart. Maybe. And that's a big maybe. But in all likelihood, I think not. Indeed It would be an insult to the person and humiliating for you that you never bothered to stay in contact, and are only demanding to beat them for little Money. In some cases, people have the financial and / or human resources to help, but it is likely they will help someone, they know and trust to a stranger.
Networking is not about the collection and distribution of business cards. It's about relationships. It is about the collection the phone and call the people to remain in contact with them. Do something nice for someone in your network. Read them a head start for their business. Offer them Help on a project or a helping hand when they moved. They'll remember for them.
Stay in touch! And for heaven's sake, if someone gives you a Lead, follow up immediately! Life is too short and fragile. I remember a good lead from someone in relation to contact with the legendary Canadian author Pierre Berton, the 50 books in 50 years, wrote, and won three Governor General's Awards and 14 honorary degrees. I stopped by now and set it off, I thought all the time had the world, and Finally, the leadership had taken somewhere and I forgot it. Mr. Berton recently died at the age of 84 years at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto as a result of diabetes and heart disease. Canada is at a loss. I'm sure with a loss.
