Write off capital loss tax question?
I lost 30k in a bad investment for a start-up companies. It was basically a loan. I know I write every year from 3k to 30k is my off everything. The company have filed for Chapter 11 sine or bankruptcy, but I can not influence the owner, to me the paperwork so that I can file for write off. Need 1) What kind of paper I just write? 2) there is one other possibility that I was going about the Internet or elsewhere to get? My tax advisor says I need proof for the companies went under or their tax return. I have all the documents of the loan / Investment Thank you for your help
A copy of the Chapter 11 filing or 13 should work. Google the name of the company and see if it is filed on line at County level, where the company filed bk. If not online you can get it across the yard.
