How do I find out whether a lawyer is legit – I got a strange letter in the mail – see details?

Letter referred to a bankruptcy in a hospital, I have never been to. It is mentioned that if I want to get a copy of my medical records, I must give my name and SS #, address and telephone number. I think it is very strange. It was addressed to me but to my parents address. I have information that the hospital found closed in January 2007. I have a fraud alert on my Credit reports raised only in the case. I just feel very weird about it. The letter came from a lawyer … That is the law referred to in this connection.
